Hardcover (Half Vellum)
1501 · Bologna
by Philostratus, Lucius Flavius; Beroaldo, Philippo (edited and scripted); Rinuccini, Alamano (trans.)
Bologna: Benedictus Hectoris, 1501. First Edition. Hardcover (Half Vellum). Very Good Condition. Later, ca. early 19th century, vellum backed boards. Worn at edges, old private library label to front cover. Library stamp to title and first page, scattered foxing and occasional staining, most in red (from candle wax?) not obstructing legibility meaningfully. Scattered early underlining and marginalia - generally a clean, attractive copy. (2), 93 leaves.
The first Latin edition of the possibly apocryphal biography of Apollonius of Tyana, magician, Pythagorean philosopher and traveler. It describes his travels in Italy, Nubia, Mesopotamia and India. The Rinuccini manuscript translation into Latin was prepared for the Medici in 1475. 4 Size: Folio. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Biography & Autobiography; Travel & Places. Inventory No: 045685. (Inventory #: 045685)
