Eisenhower, Chief of Staff of the Army, and inscribed "Birthday greetings to Secretary of War Robert Patterson, whose anniversary corresponds with that of Lincoln. Feb. 12, 1945". Robert P. Patterson Sr. (1891 - 1952) During WWII Patterson was appointed Secretary of War when Henry L. Stimson resigned. Patterson was the chief "mobilizer" of US forces in the second World War; his chief responsibility was to rapidly arm a threatened and unprepared America. He supervised the procurement and contracted for the delivery of over $100 billion worth of supplies and equipment. Prior to that Patterson was Under Secretary of War under President Franklin Roosevelt, and a NY judge who served in WWI and received the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in France. Limited Edition, printed on Andora antique paper. 8vo, color frontispiece, 78pp. A fine, untrimmed copy in the original cream cloth, in the original red slipcase.
