Full blue morocco by tooled in gold, with red onlays, inner morocco framed doublures, chamfered boards, a.e.g., bound by Bayntum, Bath, and stamped by the Boston bookseller Charles E Lauriat, in a blue buckram slipcase. Fine. First edition. Eighty-six extra plates, of which eighteen are colored, 206 pp. 1 vols. 8vo. A lovely volume with many double page plates extra-illustrating Elliot's memoir of the French Revolution. The author was a Scottish aristocrat living in Paris during Revolution, and thus an eyewitness to events. Having been the mistress of the Duke of Orléans, she found herself awaiting the guillotine, but was released after the demise of Robespierre. Her memoir was not published until after her death.
