Revised edition. 8vo. 344 pp. Inscribed on the front endpaper by Admiral George Belknap to his son: "To my darling little son / Prescott Hartford Belknap, / Sept. 23rd 1870. Geo. E. Belknap."; Belknap (1832-1903) commanded a Monitor in the campaign against Fort Fisher in North Carolina during the Civil War and participated in blockade activities against Charleston, and was the senior officer in Hawaii during its 1874 political riots. In 1900 Prescott Belknap published a book length poem celebrating William Walker, of Nicaragua fame, and giving his narrative of service in Roosevelt's Rough Riders during the Spanish American war's Cuban campaign. Several signatures pulled, but a good solid copy. Original brown cloth (rubbed, some wear at spine ends and corners), gilt spine title. (#8319). (Inventory #: 61164)
