Includes correspondence from John C. Calhoun, who was Secretary of War from 1817 to 1825. Also includes proceedings of the court-martial, held at Fort Scott in Georgia, at which Col. David Brearly was tried and acquitted for mustering into the services of the United States "a large body of Indian warriors" thereby consuming a large quantity of the supplies intended for the relief of U.S. troops and Georgia militia stationed at Fort Scott.
