1846 · London
by McGeachy, Edward
London, 1846. 17pp. plus two folding maps, and advertisements. Original cloth backed boards, printed paper label. Some edge wear. Short tear in large map with no loss. Overall very good, inscribed on titlepage: "Receiv'd from the Author / October 9, 1846 / McG." An early vision of the improved communications possible through steam power. An isthmian canal and steam route to Australia figured in these schemes. "The author has anticipated many of the routes since adopted" - Sabin. The maps illustrate the proposed and already existing routes in the United States, eastern Canada, the West Indies, Central America, and parts of South America. The small map depicts a proposed route linking China, Australia, the Americas, Africa, and Europe. SABIN 43259. GOLDSMITHS 34751. KRESS C6897 (lacking the large map) (Inventory #: WRCAM10576)
