Edinburg, 1827. 302pp. plus folding map. Engraved title. 16mo. Contemporary three quarter calf and marbled boards, spine gilt, leather labels. Bit rubbed, occasional trace of foxing, neat bookplate. Very good. Volume XVII in "Constable's Miscellany." Roberts arrived in Jamaica in 1816, where he gained command of a ship with a cargo suitable for the Indian trade. He sailed to the Bay of Mandingo, New Caledonia (with material about the Scotch Darien Company and the San Blas Indians), Porto Bello, Mosquito Shore, Rio del Oro, Pearl Kay Lagoon, Cape Gracias a Dios, Nicaragua, and Guatemala (where he was taken by pirates before escaping to Cuba), then back to England. His narrative includes much information about the gold regions, native Indians, and commerce and trade.
