Captain Clark was convicted of murder and sentenced to death after he fatally shot Captain Innes in a duel. He received a royal pardon almost immediately afterwards. The trial, reported in detail and apparently verbatim, is remarkable for the number of distinguished character witnesses produced for the defence. These include Lord Southwell, Admiral Martin, Admiral Bing, Admiral Fox, Lord Montague Bertie, Sir John Cross and several naval captains. This account was reprinted in Dublin in 1750. Both are scarce. Concerning the London edition, OCLC locates 11 copies, 3 copies in North America, 1 in a law library (University of Minnesota). English Short-Title Catalogue T25541.
