Buffalo, 1872. unbound. 1 page on lined paper, 8 x 6.5 inches, Buffalo, September 11, 1872 -- complying with an autograph collector's request and providing a popular Civil War quote that originated from William Shakespeare, in full: "Sir, I have yours of the 9th asking an autograph letter which I cheerfully give you with the sentiment 'Be Just and Fear Not.'" Slight tear at the left-hand margin on the addressee's line, with no loss of text; natural folds; mounting remnants on the back. Very good(-) condition.
