Carter of Cartersville) returns for a sentimental tale set partly in New York and partly in Virginia, with new characters including an inexperienced young black house servant, a callow Northern banker, and a little girl whose first real, home-style Christmas celebration caps off the story. F.C. Yohn provided the eight color-printed plates, as well as a pencil sketch of the doorway of the Colonel's house; the volume opens with a photographic portrait of the author and closes with one of actor E.M. Holland as the titular character in the 1892 stage production of Col. Carter of Cartersville. This is => numbered copy 220 of 500 printed, signed by the author; the trade edition of the same year was issued in green cloth, while this special limited edition is in vellum with yapp edges. The front cover design, a steaming wassail bowl, is signed by "BS": Smith's son, Frank Berkeley Smith.
