The earliest version of this laudatory biography, issued during the initial stage of the Mexican-American War, when Taylor had first become a popular hero after his early victories. Includes an account of Taylor's defense of Fort Harrison in 1812, the Battle of Okee-chobe in 1837, and the battles of Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma in 1846 (the latter two are illustrated in the map), and biographical sketches of officers killed.
