Both volumes of this two volume set are in near fine condition, both bound in 3/4 royal blue morocco and marbled paper covered boards with five raised bands on the spines with gilt text in two of the compartments and gilt borders and decorative devices in the remaining compartments. The top edge of the text blocks are gilt. The end sheets are matching marbled paper. Both volumes are octavos measuring 8 3/4 by 5 3/4 inches. The leather at the tips of the boards are lightly rubbed as are the joints. The bindings, joints and hinges are tight and strong. Bound in at the rear of both volumes are the original spine strips and covers for the trade edition. Volume I contains 289 pages of text illustrated with three steel lithographs and 54 wood engravings. Volume II contains 255 pages including an index for both volumes and is illustrated with ten steel lithographs and 34 wood engravings. This elaborate binding was performed by W. Worsfold of London.
