About fine, with some very faint wear to the extremities, else fine; fine unclipped dust jacket. A beautiful copy. This copy of Tigers of the Snow was presented to former owner George Lowe by the author in thanks for the laudatory quotation he provided for its dust jacket. In the card laid into this volume, Neale expresses this thanks for the quote, which he says "has helped a lot" and to which he adds the further praise "it also meant a lot that you resected the book." Tigers of the Snow is an attempt to tell the history of the Sherpas' formative role in European climbing in the Himalayas from the Sherpas' own point of view. To accomplish his goal, Neale lived in a Sherpa village, interviewed many of its inhabitants, and learned to speak some of the native language. Specifically, Neale focuses on the disastrous 1934 German expedition to Nanga Parbat, the world's ninth tallest peak, which he claims "forever changed how the porters think of themselves.". Inscribed by Author. 1st Edition.. Hard Cover. Fine/Dust Jacket Included.
