Stuttgart: Fey, 1978. Some slight edgewear to the spine ends, else near fine in illustrated wrappers.. First Edition. Quarto. INSCRIBED by the author to Jean-Michel Basquiat: "for jean-michel / basquiat, love, / diego cortez / nyc dec. '84". An important association copy from one of Basquiat's earliest and most important supporters. Cortez and Basquiat met in the early seventies and Cortez immediately recognized the young artist's brilliance. His now famous Times Square show featured a generous portion of Basquiat's work, all of which sold - most importantly to Met curator Henry Geldzhaler and dealer Bruno Bischofberger. This exceptional and unsung artists' book from the late 70s is a personal photographic portrait of Elvis' army years in West Germany. Cortez himself discovered the cache of photographs, taken by Rudolf Paulini in 1959, which show Elvis posing and shaking hands with a variety of people, mostly glamorous and vampy women.
