BALTHUS. Wuthering Heights. By Emily Bronte. Illustrated with fifteen lithographs after drawings by Balthus (Balthazar Klossowski de Rola). Folio, bound in goatskin leather dyed grey-green to evoke the Yorkshire moors, and housed in a cloth slipcase with leather spine label (slight waterstain on the front of the box). New York: Limited Editions Club, 1993. The chef d'oeuvre of the artist as book-illustrator. Balthus began his career as an artist when Rilke arranged to have his book Mitsou published, and it was not till sixty years later, that he was involved in another book. He had actually made the drawings when he was twenty-five, but apart from having some of them reproduced in the magazine Minotaure, nothing was done with them. One of only 300 copies signed by Balthus. As new.
