Foxing and mild staining, second title bound in at front with old paper obscuring "Second Tombe", lacking the first title and blanks, long tear with no loss to one preliminary, scattered mostly minor foxing, a few small ink stains and burns, occasionally obscuring a letter or two, The Second English edition of Pliny's monumental history of the world (the second printing with the first title dated 1635 - not present here - and the second 1634). Pliny both compiled current knowledge of the world (citing over 400 authorities) and added to it himself . Not just the model for all encyclopedias to follow, it is the ur-book of reference, the model for an eclectic, boundlessly useful assortment of human knowledge.
