Northridge, CA: Lord John Press, 1989. First Edition. One of an edition limited to 50 deluxe copies specially bound, designed by Gary Abrahamian, and signed by the author Ross Thomas, of which this is number 3. With an additional printing of 300 numbered only copies. Octavo, 37 pages. Mint copy. The galley proofs are dated 4-13-89 and have marginal corrections in both blue pencil and black ink, folded in half, and are in fine condition. The single page Typed Signed Contract, dated January 19, 1989, is signed by both the publisher Herb Yellin and Ross Thomas - and dated by him 1-23-89, and is on Lord John Press letterhead. The letter has minor creases from folding and is in fine condition. The book is a collection of six short pieces by Ross Thomas, which, as he notes in his introduction, are referred to in the newspaper trader as ‘thumbsuckers’: “Occasionally a newspaper editor will call and ask me to write a commentary (i.e., a thumbsucker) on some breaking news even, or perhaps on the death of a writer I may have admired, or - more frequently - to review a book that might interest me.” (Inventory #: 20845E)
