Cambridge: printed by John Baskerville, 1762. 8vo, 344 leaves; contemporary if not original full pock-marked calf, elaborate gilt borders on covers, smooth gilt-decorated spine laid out in 6 compartments, red morocco label in 1, a.e.g.; the textblock is clean and sound but the covers are worn and the joints rough and starting; a good copy. "Baskerville printed three octavo editions of The Book of Common Prayer. The first, which appeared in 1760, was set in long lines of Great Primer. There were two impressions, one with and the other without a border round each page … cancelled title pages were substituted later in 1760 and in 1761… The second edition appeared later in 1760 … and two impressions were printed, with and without borders. It was first published at 7s. 6d, but in 1761 the price was raised to 8s.6d. The Royal Prayers are found in the second state only, as cancels… The third and final edition was published in 1762, set in long lines of Great Primer, without borders" (Gaskell). Gaskell 19.
