Signposts of Adventure: Glacier National Park as the Indians Know It
by Schultz, James Willard
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1926. First edition. Hardcover. Very good. 224pp. Octavo [21 cm] Light gray cloth covered boards with black ink stamped titles and borders, and an illustrated paper label mounted to the front cover. The extremities are gently rubbed and bumped, and there is a thin loss from the cloth at the head of the spine that measures about 1/8 inch deep. The underlying boards are just peeking through at the top corners. Very occasional internal light foxing. With illustrations and map. James Willard Schultz lived with the Blackfeet, married a Piegan woman, and wrote in detail about his experiences. The Northern Piegan band of the Blackfeet Nation are the modern Indian tribe usually associated with Glacier National Park. Schultz gave Blackfeet names to geographic features in the park. It was the writings of James Willard Schultz that first enticed George Bird Grinnell to the area in 1885. Grinnell later helped to establish the park in 1910. (Inventory #: 47403)
