Wat de R.A.F. voor bezet Nederland beteekende [What the RAF did for the occupied Netherlands]
by Braam Houckgeest, A. Q. van
The Hague: 't Kvypse Honigh, 1944. First edition. Hardcover. g to vg. Large octavo. Unpaginated. pp. Original quarter red cloth over illustrated paper covered boards. Illustrated title page. Clandestinely published in The Hague in December 1944, this work is splendidly illustrated with 17 full-page color illustrations (including title) by the author who depicts with a great sense of humor the Nazi occupation troops in Holland being constantly harassed by the Royal Air Force. Of the fifty copies bound in expensive half-parchment, only a handful survived the war. The others burned when a bombardment by the same RAF missed its target and accidently destroyed the warehouse where they had been stored. Through an ironic twist of fate, clandestine literature had fallen victim to friendly fire. This copy is one of the regular edition. Moderate foxing and age-toning along edges of binding. Offsetting to endpapers. Text in Dutch. Binding in overall good, interior in very good condition.
