Theater program for Queen's Lace Handkerchief printed on lace handkerchief
by Strauss, Johann
St. Louis: Castle Square Opera Co, 1900. Measuring 12 by 12 inches. Lace-trimmed handkerchief printed on one side only. Issued to commemorate the twenty-seventh week of opera in English by the Castle Square Company, this program was printed for "Souvenir Week," which ran from December 10th to the 15th. A key piece of text from Strauss's comic opera is printed at the very top: "A queen doth love thee, yet art thou no king." The opera was first performed in 1880 and was considered one of Stauss's most popular. The textile has been folded into fourths, and is therefore creased, but overall is in fine condition. Scarce.
