London: Longman and Company, 1849. Deep gilt embossed covers and spine with interlocking Celtic chain designs. Front cover central floral arrangement and title. Watered-silk endpapers with hinges re-inforced with same paper, likely original. ILLUMINATED BY OWEN JONES. All edges gilt. Twenty-four heavy paper leaves with chromographic initial letters, text, and border designs in a variety of colors. See photos. Corners and spine extremities just lightly worn. Two blank leaves are moderatley foxed. Binding is tight, which is unusual for these types of books of the period. A small book-plate on the front pastedown from previous owner. All leaves are intact, and crisp and clean. Housed in a custom clamshell box with leather spine label. OCLC lists only two libraries having the book. We can find no auction records of a sale in the past 25 years. Owen Jones (1809-1874) was an English-born Welsh architect and designer.
