by Hammell, Will (1888-1963)
New York: H. O. Co., Inc., printer, 1933. NA. Fine. Wonderful menu of Depression Era theater district eatery, Ye White Horse Inn. The cover, front and back, features a colorful nostalgic coaching, equine foxhunting scene, evoking Georgian England and the rolling countryside and picturesque coach stop one can still find dotting the English countryside. Inside, the menu is decorated around its perimeter with gnomes and elfin figures that give this menu a special irresistible whimsy. The menu measures 28 by 42 cm when opened. Hammell was a successful commercial artist who did covers and other artwork for "Vogue" and "Puck" and many other publications. As this menu demonstrates, he had a facility with different styles of artwork. Light wear.
