1938. TINNED FISH. The Golden Book of Portuguese Tinned Fish. Organized and directed by J. Leitao de Barros. 56 pp. Profusely illustrated with photomontages, fold out chart and map. Small folio, 340 x 250 mm, bound in original embossed gold wrappers. Lisbon: Instituto Portugues de Conservas de Peixe, 1938. An extravagant promotional work from the Instituto Portugues de Conservas de Peixe (The Portuguese Institute of Tinned Fish). Articles such as "The Sardine" by Raul Bandão and "The Tunny Fishery" by Sousa Costa are embellished with dramatic photomontages of fishermen hard at work along with there catches and of course the resulting canned fish. The endpapers are of particular note, with their large scale gilt printed stylized fish patterns. A fine copy.
