Cap Français [Saint Domingue]: Chex Dufour de Rians, 1792. Broadsheet, 10 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches. Quarto. Printed on grey paper. A few chips and paper weaknesses, and one small area of paper loss not affecting text. Very good. Letter dated Jan. 17, 1792, from the French commissioners in Saint Domingue tasked with ending the insurrection to government officials in Cayes, informing them of the imminent visit of one commissioner, St. Leger, to the southern province. The arrival of the French envoy signalled the commissioners' mistrust of the provincial government to control the spread of the rebellion. "Nous avons appris, depuis, que les désordres de l'Ouest s'étoient communiquées au Sud, et nous craignons que vous n'ayex plus été les maîtres, à la vue de tant d'atrocités, de conserver le sang froid si nécessaire au rétablissement de la paix." A rare Saint Domingue imprint, not in OCLC or the FRENCH UNION CATALOG (Inventory #: WRCAM51781)
