Contemporary cloth, spine lettered in gilt. 1850 ownership inscription on free endsheets, cloth somewhat spotted and soiled; occasional foxing and spotting, a few margins carelessly opened; good and sound. The first volume (9 October 1839 - 1 June 1842) of this undergraduate periodical, consisting of the original issues (printed in Hertford), accompanied by a general title, preliminary note and index. In the text the contributions are largely under pseudonyms or initials, but are identified in large part in the general index. The college prospered from 1806 until 1857, under the patronage of the East India Company, as a training ground for civil servants destined for the administration of India. Malthus was among the most notable of the faculty recruited for the College (1805 - 34). The contents consists of typical undergraduate verse, criticism and fictions. (Inventory #: WRCLIT76134)
