War Department rubberstamps on the two blanks preceding the front wrapper (also Duplicate Exchange stamp from the Library of Congress on front wrapper, on the first page of text; on p.7, p.12, two stamps on p.20 and one stamp on the verso of the map leaf. Archival repair o the margin of the front wrapper, brown tape repair to the inside of the back wrapper. A Mexican view of this crushing defeat for the Mexicans under Santa Anna by Zachary Taylor. The battle was fought 22/23 February, 1847. Jefferson Davis was present, and was wounded in the foot; and it was TaylorÕs command to Capt. Braxton Bragg (later a Confederate General and the military adviser to President Jefferson Davis) at one point in the engagement Òdouble-shot your guns and give them hell, BraggÓ which was bowdlerized to Ògive them a little more grape, Captain BraggÓ, and would be used as a campaign slogan which carried Taylor into the White House.It was at the conclusion of this war, by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, February 1948, that the Mexicans ceded California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and part of New Mexico to the United States.
