by Marr, Geoffrey V.
Amsterdam, Oxford, New York, Tokyo: North-Holland, 1987. First edition. Hardcover. Very good/very good. Odd volume. 846pp. Large octavo [24.5 cm] Red cloth over boards with a gilt stamped title on the spine. The corners of the covers are gently bumped, and the edges of the jacket are lightly worn. In this volume, the authors and editors have concentrated on the use of synchroton radiation which covers the electromagnetic spectrum which extends from about 10eV to 3keV in photon energy, and is basically the region where the radiation is strongly absorbed by atmospheric gases, and therefore has to make ample use of a high vacuum to transport the radiation to the work station, and where the presence of hard x-rays can cause extensive damage to both the optics and the targets used in the experimental rigs.
