American imprint of the work of Philip Doddridge (1702-1751), independent British minister, non Conformist, writer and hymn writer, founder of a dissenting academy in Northampton whose influence extended to America. Silas Andrus, the publisher, was an early Hartford Connecticut bookbinder and bookseller who had a shop in Trumbull Street. He turned to publishing around 1820, and is recognized for publishing the first folio Bible stereotyped in the United States.Two volumes; Vol. I: frontispiece portrait, xiv, 482pp; Vol II: 416pp. Bound in the mottled calf, gilt titles at red spine labels.
