by Jack Roth, Rachel Chester and William J. McAleer
Self-published, 1954. Uncommon artist's book by Abstract Expressionist painter Jack Roth and his wife Rachel Chester. Plastic spiral binding, dark, stiff card wrappers. Crisp, clean and Near Fine. 12mo, an experimental, hipster exercise in wordplay and aphorisms (many of them non-sensical). Jack Roth was a fascinating figure, a brilliant mathematician (PhD Duke, Prof. at U. of Kentucky) who lead another life as a successful painter and a key member of the Abstract Expressionsits (along with DeKooning, Pollock, Franz Kline, etc.). His work is in the permanent collection at MoMA, New York, among other institutions, and he was represented for many years by New York's formidable Knoedler Gallery. Also includes interesting laid-in ephemera. (Inventory #: 12725)
Buying and selling widely in the areas of Children's, Art, Scholarly, Photography, Sports, Bindings. Have been actively selling for over 25 years and, though we're more generalists than specialists, we do place a particular focus on books and ephemera in the above areas. Will travel far and wide to look at interesting collections and always welcome inquiries.
