Hardcover
1934 · Moscow and Leningrad
by VYGOSTSKY, LEV SEMENOVICH
Moscow and Leningrad: Gosudarstvennoe sotsial'no-ekonomicheskoe izdatel'svo, 1934. Hardcover. Good+. First edition. Original cloth backed boards. 8 7/8 x 6 inches (22 x 15 cm); frontispiece, xxxvi, 324 pp. Some wear to boards, the cheap paper browned as is common with Soviet works of the era. Overall a sound copy. Vygotsky is now seen as a seminal figure, largely on the basis of this work. It discusses internal and external speech, and the development of cognitive awareness, and is a key volume in semiotic theory due to its discussion of sign systems, the genetic roots of thinking and speech etc. It was published the year of Vygotsky's death, and was apparently suppressed soon after its publication on the orders of Stalin. We find no copies on OCLC or COPAC. Very rare. (Inventory #: 14513)
