[Philadelphia: T.B. Peterson. circa1850s]. First. First American edition. First published in French in 1848. Illustrated by W.G. Maso and others. 207pp. Bound in contemporary quarter vellum and blue papercovered boards in European style, with paper spine label with title handwritten in ink. Text in two columns. Pages lightly foxed, early owner's name inked on front pastedown and first page, lacking most of the rear fly, boards scuffed, a pleasing about very good copy. Apparently issued (or at least bound) without title page and only The Knight of Mauleon on page headers, with no indication of the title The Iron Hand or publisher. Likely issued in wrappers, presumably that information would have been on the front wrapper. Uncommon title and exceptionally scarce in English. . (Inventory #: 408913)
