Harmondsworth, Middlesex: Puffin Picture Books, 1951. First edition of this popular collection of nursery songs, number 91 in the Puffin Picture Book series edited by Noel Carrington. The lyrics of each piece are accompanied by a vivid full-color lithograph depicting the musical notes as animated figures: lambs for "Mary Had A Little Lamb," spiders for "Little Miss Muffet," blackbirds for "Sing a Song of Sixpence," and so on. Other featured songs include "Three Blind Mice," "Round the Mulberry Bush," "Pat a Cake," "Humpty Dumpty," and "Hey, Diddle Diddle." Illustrator H.A. Rey, along with his wife Margret, is best remembered as the creator of Curious George. A bright near-fine copy of a delightful book. Oblong octavo, staple-bound, original color lithographed card wrappers. Color illustrations throughout text. Tiny closed tear to foreedge of lower wrapper.
