Circa 1880 Victorian Card Album and Scrapbook with Color Lithographic Advertisements & Greeting Cards
New England, 1880. Album. Good +. Oblong quarto (approx. 12.5" x 9.25"). 12 leaves (24) pages. Brown cloth hardcover with black decorated borders. Gilt stamped title inside the black borders on both the front and rear boards. Cloth is edge worn. corners are bumped and frayed. Pages are made of thick linen card stock with several loose threads along the bottom edges and fewer loose threads on the top edge. Accordion type folding album that has no spine and can fold out from the spine side or the foredge side. Each page is joined on the foredge and spine to make one leaf. (The verso of each page is blank and could have been used for additional paste down cards, advertisements, etc.) Both front and rear paste down end sheets used. 168 cards and advertisements of varying sizes completely fills the album. With the exception of two delicate cards that are creased/crushed (not torn) the color Victorian images are in very good condition. One loose card. 1880 written date on the one of the cards and another card has a copyright date of 1878. The majority of advertising cards are from Boston. (Inventory #: 7546)
