Sing Sing Prison, Manuscript monthly accounting for April 1833
New York, 1833. Ephemera. Very good condition. A hand written monthly accounting for the month of April 1833 subtitled "Dr. Robert Wiltse Agent of the State Prison at Mount Pleasant in Account with the State of New York' and signed by Dr. Robert Wiltse (then warden of Sing Sing Prison), A. Graham, John Sing. The prison was the 3rd opened in New York State. It's first warden was Elam Lynds, who was charged with building a model prison. Robert Wiltse was the 2nd warden, in charge from 1830-40. The account shows amount rendered from 'Labor of Convicts'. On verso, "Monthly Return, Aprl 1833, No 7". 15 1/2 x 12 1/2" lined cream paper with brown ink, top right corner torn with loss, original folds. (Inventory #: 22250)
