1950 · Roma
Roma: Editore Mauro Gigli, 1950. 1950s. Ephemera. VG contents (maps appear to be unused); covers have edge wear, splitting at head/tail of spine, and light soiling to back cover.. Trabacchi, A. (Augusto). Color, fold-out map with bw legend and street map on reverse; bound into a yellow/red illustrated card cover. Open map sheet is 29 x 40 inches; folder size is 5.5 x 8 inches. Much of the text in Italian, French, German, English, and Spanish. A color map for tourists, primarily of the hundreds of antiquities in Rome but including churches, cemeteries, catacombs, museums, galleries, arches, forums, mausoleums, amphitheatres, temples, thermal baths, palaces, ministries, theatres, obelisks, etc. Of course, places like the Pantheon, Colosseum, Vatican, and so many more wonderful treasures. The map pictures many of the buildings themselves, in quite a bit of detail for the size of the map. The reverse, in black-and-white, lists all the principal buildings as well as tramlines, bus lines, the Metropolitan (Metro/Subway). Also pictured is a smaller bw map of the streets of Rome. Really a very beautiful map, still suitable for use when touring or stunning framed on the wall of a Rome afficionado. The color map was drawn by Augosto Trabacchi, Italian artist and map-maker.
