Catalogue from the gallery exhibition of Tissot's etchings, held in 1889 (no date listed, but information deduced). From an article/review of the show: "It is interesting to know that this painter-etcher is, practically, his own printer and publisher. Owing to the limited number of impressions, a number of the plates have become very scarce. Some of the etchings are reproductions of his own paintings (as, for instance, his Prettiest Woman in Paris); others are original etchings. His figure-work, as a rule, is excellent, simple and strong in drawing. The five plates on The Prodigal Son form an interesting and striking series. In The Return, especially, drawing and light effect are particularly good." (Frank Linstow White - The Epoch, March 1889). Both the Prettiest Woman in Paris and the first/second state etchings of The Prodigal Son were shown. 87 total works were on view. Includes an introductory essay by Charles W. Yriarte, a French writer and draughtsman.
