This was a major, two-part exhibition of American expressionism, held at the Art Students League, October 10-29, 1983 and at the Arbitrage Gallery, October 6 - November 7, 1983 (simultaneously). NOTE: the essay is dated 1977, but other dates listed run up to 1982 (last page, list of exhibitions), so this likely is the general catalogue for BOTH the 1983 exhibitions, and then each gallery has its own, smaller catalogue. With brief introductions by Alice Neel and Raphael Soyer and The Street Painters' Declaration of Principles and Purposes with reproduction signatures all all the artists. Includes biogarphic material on each artist, as well as color and bw illustrations. The Arbitrage Gallery catalogue includes two brief notes, The Street Painters, principles and purposes, and American Expressionism (feelism). Lists exhibitions and a few review comments. One loose sheet is an announcement/advertisement about both exhibitions and the receptions for each. The other sheet is a typed list of exhibitions of the works of Jessi Benton-Evans-Gray.
