London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1906. Hardcover. Near Fine. Hardcover. The songs and sonnets of Shakespeare issued as part of the publisher's Royal Library Belles Lettres series. In an advertisement in The Spectator that year, the series is described as printing books that conform more than any other existing series to Ruskin's ideal of a national series of chosen books, beautifully printed, that are models of 20th century book production. The book is beautiful, with wide margins and elegant type and each sonnet's first letter a three-line red initial. The book is in a lovely W.T. Morrell full leather brownish maroon binding with gilt design and rules to the cover and five raised bands to the spine. With gilt inside dentelles. Some light rubbing and bumping to edges and hinges. Offsetting to endpapers from inside dentelles. Otherwise very good. Interior pages are near fine. 5 x 6.5 inches. POE/070616.
