Greetings to You Duane L. Peterson from Your Co-Workers Butler Advertisers (WWI Memory Book)
Chicago: Butler Brothers, 1917 Memory album. Publisher's brown suede cloth, with brown cord binding, lettered in gilt, brown silk moiré endpapers. Very good, with rubbing and shallow chipping to the extremities, first leaf detached, second leaf reattached, interior bright and clean. An attractive piece of WWI ephemera. This book is a wartime memory album presented to American soldier Duane L. Peterson from his coworkers at Butler Advertisers in Chicago. A collection of 50 notes, this album includes poetry, well wishes, tipped in postcards, and even one original illustration. Throughout the first two years of the war, the United States maintained its neutrality and American public opinion was divided. Many Americans became increasingly sympathetic to the Allied cause with the sinking of the RMS Lusitania in May 1915, however, and the event served as a major catalyst towards US involvement. These civilians' greetings to their friend indicate not only their strong sense of nationalism but also their conviction that "our boys" were going to become "champions of democracy".. Soft Cover. Very Good.
