Réimpression de l'Architecture Française de Jacques-François Blondel, exécutée sous les Auspices du Ministère de l'Instruction Publique et des Beaux-Arts sous le Controle de MM. Gaudet et Mascal
by Blondel, Jacques-François
1904. Blondel. 8 parts bound in 4 vols., (circa 49 unnumbered pp.), IX, 298, 163, 153, 153 pp. text, 499 plates (numbered 1-500, no. 491 was never published). First several pages of volume I with 4" tears. Folio. Original wrpps., the paper on spines split and torn in some places. Paris (Emile Lévy) 1904-1905. Arntzen H 81. Blondel's corpus of engravings and descriptive commentary, issued in four volumes 1752-1756, was planned for eight volumes and 1200 plates; it succeeds and supplements an earlier work by Mariette. This magnificent pictorial survey of outstanding buildings, mainly in Paris and its region, has always been scarce, both in the original and in reprint. Most of the beautiful plates are folding; in addition, there are vignettes in the text. The important notes by Gaudet and Pascal include additions to the buildings. (Inventory #: 14476)
