Ornament und Buchschmuck: Ideen von Dr. R. Anheisser
by Anheisser, R. (Roland)
Portfolio of 35 Art Nouveau-inspired plates, featuring designs for decorative borders, botanical and floral motifs, initials, wallpaper, book design, signage, and bookplates. Some very minor age-darkening to some plates, overall very good condition. Lg. 4to. Orig. illus. boards portfolio, contents loose as issued. Dresden (Verlag von Gerhard Kühtmann) n.d. (circa 1905). Roland Anheisser was a German painter, graphic artist, botanist, drawing teacher, and writer. He set up a studio and printing press in Jugenheim, but during World War II his home and studio were burned, and he lost the majority of his life's work. The plates included in this portfolio are classic examples of Art Nouveau design, featuring beautifully intricate and fantastical flowers, animals, and geometric patterns. Very scarce institutionally; as of May 2016, only 2 copies are found in North American libraries. (Inventory #: 48461)
