"Kukryniksy" was a collective name formed by combining the names of the three caricaturists (Mikhail Kupriyanov, Porfiri Krylov, and Nikolai Sokolov) who met at Moscow art school in the early 1920's. By 1924 they had begun drawing caricatures and cartoons under the joint "Kukryniksy" name. They gained increased recognition in the 1930s for their drawings in Krokodil, a Moscow satirical newspaper, attacking Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Goebbels, and Francisco Franco.
