Unpaginated (16 pp.) catalogue presenting a cycle of 50 paintings related to the Gabrielle Russier affair by the Coopérative des Malassis artist collective, with introductory texts by Del Gerucio, Troche, and Gassiot-Talabot, incorporating experimental typography and illus. of the paintings, which were on view in Paris at the Salon de la Jeune Peinture in November 1970. Contents loose as issued, minor toning, corners bumped. Oblong 4to. Illus. wrpps., colored pencil marks on front cover, two paper accretions (glued?) on rear cover. Paris 1970. The annual Salon de la Jeune Peinture was cancelled following the events of May 1968, and the 1969 and 1970 iterations were deeply politicized and polarizing. The artists of the Malassis collective sought to dissociate social realism from propaganda, collaborating on monumental paintings that engaged a style of "critical figuration" advancing the painting as a form of direct action. The subject of the catalogue is the controversial prosecution and subsequent suicide of the arts professor Gabrielle Russier, who had an affair with her 17 year old student, a national scandal that became a symbol for the failed promises of Pompidou's "nouvelle société". 8 pp. supplemental illus. pamphlet laid in. (Inventory #: 48025)
