Documents Signed By Franklin D. Roosevelt as Assistant Secretary of the Navy
Circa, 1917. As the U.S. entered World War I, the Navy had a shortage of binoculars, telescopes and similar items. Since the best were manufactured in Germany, they could not be imported, so the program "Eyes for the Navy" was iniated. The public was asked to donate what they had. FDR was in charge of the project and signed each acknowledgement in appreciation to the donors. This copy was given to Dr. William Fuller. (Inventory #: 018914)
