Nineteenth-century olive morocco, gilt-ruled border and gilt-stamped laurel wreath on both covers, ties missing, some slight marginal soiling on a few leaves. First edition. Woodcut printer's device on title, engraved portrait of the dedicatee Prince Charles on title verso, woodcut headpieces and decorative initials. Folio. The author, who translated part of The Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, became Master of the Charterhouse. The work is dedicated to the young Prince Charles (later King Charles I) whose youthful portrait adorns the title verso. A fine, crisp copy. STC 6197; ESTC S109203.
