De Excidio et Conquestu Britanniae, et al.; Historia Brittonum, cum Additamewntis Nenii; Chronica Maiora; Chronica Minora
by Gildas; Nennius; Bede
(Berolini): (Apud Weidmannos), (1888). Hardcover. Very good. Folio. 354pp. Four Chronicles: Gildas De Excidio; Nennius, Historia; and Bede, Major and Minor Chronicles. These are almost certainly extracted from the monumental edition of ancient writers edited by Theodore Mommsen, specifically form the 'Chronica Minora Saec. IV. V. VI. VII,' Vol. III. With a long introduction by Mommsen, and with copious notes and explanations of the sources of the original manuscripts. Contemporary Half calf, paper over boards. Spine in six compartments, gilt title. Calf neatly repaired at hinges, but it and the boards are somewhat soiled and spotted; otherwise a very goo copy of a 19th century edition of two of the early sources for King Arthur (Gildas and Nennius). Bede forgot to mention him, but why would he? In Latin.
