New York, NY: Epstein & Carroll , 1961 First Edition, First Printing. In the first issue dust jacket, with the original $3.95 price on the front flap, the author's photograph and no reviews on the rear panel, and with publisher Epstein and Carroll printed on dust jacket and stated on title page (later editions have Random House as publisher). Bound in blue cloth will title in white on spine and illustration in white on front cover, clean with little noticeable wear. Interior pages are clean and unmarked except for remnants of a book plate on the front free end paper. Dust jacket is age-toned with some shelf wear and loss at head and foot of spine panel, with wear at corners, in protective mylar sleeve. A nice clean copy of a scarce First Edition of this modern fantasy classic, illustrated with humorous drawings by cartoonist Jules Feiffer. Critics have compared its appeal to that of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and to L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
