Illustrated in full color with a frontispiece of "Die Ingenieur-Wissenschaft" by Ernst Hildebrand, a chart of materials, and eight plates with hinged overlays, protected by tissue guards. These complex plates demonstrate the positions of the external and internal parts of machines. By lifting the flaps, the viewer can progress layer by layer to the very core of the device. Each part of the machine is labeled on the facing page. Models include the light bulb, electric and steam locomotives, the automobile, and several types of engines. In brick cloth, with embossed title and illustration to upper cover in green, gray, black, and silver; edges dyed red. Accompanied by a twenty-six-page Text which explains the machines in detail, illustrated with black and white diagrams, and bound in orange wrappers with the same design. Title page signature of the main volume loosening, light wear and spotting to boards, slightly bumped, and expected foxing to plates. Near fine in the original cardboard box.
