New York: Scribner, 1935. First Edition, First Printing. Signed presentation copy to Ernest Hemingway’s friend, newspaper columnist Walter Winchell. Inscribed: “To Walter Winchell from his friend and admirer. Ernest Hemingway.” Very good with the usual fading to the green cloth but less so than commonly found in a bright very good plus first issue dust jacket. Enclosed in a custom cloth clamshell box. Hemingway thought highly of Winchell in their early days and wrote that “Winchell is the greatest newspaperman that ever lived” and remarked that Winchell was the “only reporter who could last three rounds with the Zeitgeist.” Walter Winchell, was at one time one of the most powerful individuals in America with his newspaper column syndicated in hundreds of newspapers and his role as radio commentator helping him to reach millions of people. In the 1940s and 1950s, Winchell’s obssession with anti-communist conspiracies and his support of the evil Senator Joseph McCarthy eventually lost him his following. (Inventory #: 14450J)
